Gruppo UFO, of which Lapo Binazzi was a founding member, was concerned with research into signs and language. As such, many of the group’s designs are a play on popular symbols of the day. The Paramount lamp shown here comprises a ceramic base in the shape of a snow-covered Matterhorn or Mount Fuji and a shade in the shape of a “parapioggia” (umbrella). All together, Binazzi gives us a literal visualization of the movie company’s name “Para” + “Mount.” Ingenious!

A rare, early example, this work has been confirmed by Binazzi as a piece originally distributed by Studio Alchimia.
