About
Superhouse is a New York-based gallery specializing in art furniture and design, showcasing contemporary and historical works. Founded and directed by Stephen Markos, the gallery’s programming is deeply rooted in a profound understanding and appreciation of design and art history. The gallery stages exhibitions and events exploring material, technology, function, and narrative, focusing on contemporary sculpture, 1980s art furniture, and craft. Superhouse’s roster of artists and designers spans Africa, the Americas, and Europe, offering the gallery’s community diverse global perspectives.
Stephen Markos is the founder and director of Superhouse. He started his career by launching the first online fine art auction house with Artnet and has worked at Christie’s and the Museum of Modern Art. Markos believes we should not confine art to walls or pedestals and instead integrate it into everyday items like tables, lamps, and sofas. Through Superhouse, he merges art and design through a dynamic program of exhibitions and events, focusing on contemporary and historical works. Markos collaborated with top galleries such as Friedman Benda, Nilufar Gallery, and R & Company, and publications including Architectural Digest, Curbed, Interior Design, Metropolis, The New York Times, and PIN-UP featured his work. He earned his B.A. in art history from The George Washington University and attributes his upbringing in New England, surrounded by early American antiques, as the inspiration for his lifelong passion for art and design.
