The Boalum lamp takes its form from the flexible hose of a common household vacuum cleaner. Gianfranco Frattini and Livio Castiglioni were inspired to create their tubular Boalum lamp after watching a waitress using a vacuum cleaner while at a restaurant in Capri. The lamp’s design replicates the flexible vacuum hose with PVC tubing reinforced with metal rings, which encloses a string of lights. The lamp encourages interaction as it is twisted, coiled or knotted to create different shapes. Multiple lamps can be connected to create an even more dramatic effect.
