Pietro Derossi, Giorgio Ceretti and Riccardo Rosso loved to play with the ambiguity of form. Their Torneraj chair shown in Different Tendencies is no exception. Taking the shape of one-fourth of a cylinder placed on its side, it is not readily apparent that it is even a chair. The viewer has to become a participant in order to understand its function. The hole in the chair’s side is functional, allowing air to escape as the occupant’s body weight compresses the soft polyurethane foam. Keeping with the designers’ Pop roots, the chair is covered in bold white grid on a bright primary blue background.
